Sometimes traditional ideas about living room decor aren't the best solution for a small space. Instead of using blinds for window treatments, use long, flowing drapes because they draw attention to vertical space, thus expanding the area of the room. If your bed is missing the all-important headboard element, take inspiration from our headboard ideas and add a big design statement your room tonight. Headboards can sometimes be thought of as big and bulky, however, regardless of the size of the room, a headboard doesn't need to take up much space at all. In fact, if your bedroom is small or crowded, getting rid of a bedroom frame and replacing it with a headboard is a great way to reclaim valuable space in your bedroom.

There is no right or wrong when it comes to personal comfort, but for this review we split the difference and searched for the best mattress at a medium firmness. For comparing prices, we looked only at queen-size mattresses, the less expensive of the regal options. In our research, we learned a few interesting tidbits about mattresses and sleep itself. Most important, expensive doesn't always equal comfortable. Add a soft touch of texture to your bedroom by hanging a rug on the wall as a headboard alternative. A standard 5×8 rug is wide enough to match a queen size, 60” wide mattress. An Indian dhurrie-style rug (shown above) is the easiest type of rug to work with, since it's lightweight and thin.

The neutrality and sleekness of the marble against the live and organic quality of the plants form a harmonious pair. Coming in a variety of colors and metal accents, you can mix and match sizes to match each room's surroundings. Try varying both the plant sizes and heights as well as the heights and shapes of the marble pots for an interesting display. We love these planters either clustered in various sizes on a side table or all in a row and on display on a window sill.
